2026 Hockey Alberta Provincials Recap - Week 2

Mar. 31, 2026

Week two of the Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships delivered another unforgettable weekend of competition, as teams from across the province battled it out and a new group of champions were crowned. From first-time milestones to back-to-back titles, the weekend showcased the continued growth, depth, and excitement of hockey in Alberta.

From March 26-29, thirteen teams won a Provincial Championship title. Congratulations to:

U18B - Olds Grizzlys

U18C - Coaldale Cobras

U18A NBC - Trails West Wolves Red

U18 Female AA - Lloydminster Musgrave Steelers

U15 Female B - 3 C’s Coyotes

U13AAA - Lethbridge Hurricanes

U13AA - St. Albert Stars

U13 Female AA - Bow Valley Chaos

U11AA - TRAC Wolverines

One of the most historic moments came in the U13 AAA division, where the inaugural provincial championship took place. The Lethbridge Hurricanes made history as the first-ever Provincial Champions at this level, marking a significant step forward in the development pathway for young athletes in Alberta.

Across the province, the impact of hockey extended beyond the rink. Many host sites also brought the game into their community through the Hockey Alberta School Program, connecting with local students and sharing their passion for hockey. This year, Host team Rocky Mountain Raiders U13 Female AA players took it a step further by visiting schools in person; creating meaningful connections and inspiring the next generation.

On the ice, several standout performances defined the weekend. The Red Deer Cosmos Group Chiefs captured the U15 Female A Provincial Championship in a thrilling 2-1 victory, securing back-to-back provincial titles and continuing an impressive run for the program.

At the U18 AAA level, the Edmonton Junior Oilers Blue made history, capturing the AEHL Championship in Game 5 of the league final. With the win, they became the first Edmonton-based team to claim a U18 AAA league title since the 2004-05 season—marking a significant milestone for hockey in the city. The Junior Oilers Blue will now face the Okanagan Rockets in the Pacific Regional on the Road to the Telus Cup. Game 1 is set for April 3 at 6:00 PM at Rutland Arena in Kelowna, BC.

Hockey Alberta would like to recognize and thank all of the host sites, Provincial Chairs, volunteers, and organizing committees for the time and effort they put into making these championships a success. From coordinating logistics to creating a welcoming experience for teams and families, your hard work plays a vital role in the success of each championship. Your commitment continues to strengthen communities across the province, and these events would not be possible without you.

The excitement continues! Week 3 of the Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships takes place April 1-5, featuring Junior B (Lloydminster), Junior C (Ardrossan), U17 AAA (Spruce Grove), and U16 AA (Beaumont). Best of luck to all teams competing!
